Snow Conditions

Of course the million dollar question for any winter sportsmen and women coming to Zakopane is: "is it snowing?"

It's all very well coming all the way to the beautiful Tatras for a spot of skiing, but if there's no snow it's no go. Well the good news for you powder enthusiasts is that the snow conditions in Zakopane are usually reliably good. Snow normally falls as early as December, and in fact the skiing season runs from December all the way through until May. Meaning there's plenty of time for budding snowboarders to perfect their air to fakies...

There are also artificial snow makers to bolster Zakopane's snow conditions if Mother Nature isn't supplying the goods.

In the very near future Zakopane Life plan to bring you an up-to-date prognosis on the exact snow conditions on the slopes but for now please check our standard weather page to see if the white stuff is falling!

The weather forecast in Zakopane and specially 1 week in advance are not very accurate, whatever the website providing those information. You may check weather 3 days forecast on accuweather.com, and pogodynka.pl , 8days-14 days on weatheronline.pl .Weather forecasts provided on that last website are giving low temperatures and snowfall.Anyway, wherever you will go fr sking, you will be able to ski and snowbaord in very good conditions as if there is bad snow conditions, they will make some snow by night. But for sure, in the main ski resort Kasprowy Wierch but elsewhere also, ski conditions will be very good. You may also check links on website rovided on previous posts for snow conditions and opened slopes. Hello, nobody knows or may predict/foresee exactly whta the ski conditions will be in February. But if you have not been in Zakopane yet and if there is no snow, you will be anyway charmed by the city, the local folklore, the beauty of the national park. And evening, you will be enjoying the highlander and polish ambience in restaurants, pubs, clubs.Anyway, evrybody wants the snow condition to be very good and to last until April. So, let's hope to have a nice white winter until April.Staff of Ogrodtgorskie Residence(very comfy apartments in and around Zakopane)

Hi - we are planning to arrive in Poland in early December, but more specifically in Zakopane on the 15th. We will be staying in the town centre, booked in for 4 nights. I do have one question though - will the ski slopes be open? Many thanks from Wisconsin!

Hello Firsttimevisitor, ski season is almost over in Zakopane. Some slopes may still be opened when you will be coming to Zakopane as Szymoszkowa, Nosal and some slopes from Kasprowy Wierch.Ski conditions could be not very good. So, the best is to Check narty.pl with webcams and their own websites. If you have to pay a lot to bring by plane your ski equipment, and depending on the length of your stay, I would advise you to think to rent ski and boots equipment(it costs about 35 PLN/day)day by day, as there may be only few days for you to enjoy skiing in Zakopane.Staff of Ogrodygorskie apartments-Zakopane

Hello , the SPRING arrived in Zakopane. At the moment it is sunny often but warmer (+5-10 Celsius by day-0-5 by night). So,the snow on slopes are getting melted slowly. However you may have a chance to ski on few slopes with not very good ski conditions , otherwise you may do some trekking and sightseeing to discover the city with amenities, museums, aquaprk and spa center...You can check by yourself:
SKI SLOPES MAPS http://www.narty.l.pl/wyciagi_tatry.htm
WEBCAMS ON ZAKOPANE SLOPES http://www.narty.pl/kamery/polska/
WEATHER AND SNOW CONDITIONS ON SLOPES: http://www.narty.pl/prognoza-pogody/polska/zakopane/
The best time to come to Zakopane for skiing in good conditions is from January to end of February(middle of march sometimes, end of march rarely).Welcome Back to Zakopane anyway in a near future for skiing or trekking.

reviewed by Jose from Portugal on Jan.29.2011

Depending on favorable snowfall, temperature, quality of snow on the slopes, most slopes will be opened from very early to late night as it is a holiday period/peak time and all ski professionals will do their best to maximise the quality of their slopes to welcome the maximum of tourists coming to ski.

We don't want to reserve any. The question is maybe some local stuff can comment here, if all slopes will be available?

reviewed by Mantas from Lithuania on Jan.12.2011

Unless you pay a big sum of money, there will be no chance for you to reserve lifts and slopes only for you.

reviewed by Lorek from Poland on Jan.12.2011

we've plans to ski in Zakopane on February 4-7. As I know, there are national children holidays in this time, and due to this, tracks can be overcrowded. Even some lifts can be reserved. Please comment if it is true.

reviewed by Mantas from Lithuania on Jan.12.2011

There may be a chance that there will be some snow and still good ski conditions on some slopes. But all depends on the Zakopane Foehn ("Halny"), and a good weather forecast with some snowfalls and low temperature.

Not daunted by the lack of snow there are loads of bars to try out and the hospitality of the people of Zakopane is the best. Been coming here for youras a a little lack of snow is not going to stop me. Spent 5 weeks in africa just recently and only had 4 full days of sun so can't complain.

Hi!
I am currently living in Sweden for 6 months. I am interested in going skiing in Zakopane now, at some time in March 2009. What is the snow fall usually like at this time of year? It is good at the moment? And what is the forecast for the rest of March?

What I am pretty much trying to find out is, does it look like a good snowfall season at the moment?

And help will be appreciated very much! Thanks

Hey. Just got back from a great time skiing in Zakopane. I found that looking at the webcam at http://www.szymoszkowa.pl/kamera-3.html gave a good idea of snow conditions. That piste is very low down, so if there is still snow there, you can bet there is more higher up the mountains!

Hi, I am there at Zakopane at the moment. There are very bad snow conditions. Natural snow is there only at Kasprovy but on Polana Sym. was somehow fun too. Althou the trail condition was not good. Tomorrow will try some places outside the Zako, maybe better luck there. And then further to Slovakai.

I am feeling Peter's frustration. I'm originally from the UK and now live in Krakow. I really want to hit the slopes but don't fancy driving up there to unknown snow conditions. We NEED to know snow depths, and there is no mention anywhere. How difficult can it be!!! Get your rulers out and start measuring!

Too right! we need to know snow conditions on the slopes! I've been looking all over Tatra Mountain web sites and can't find snow conditions anywhere, including in the well-resourced Zakopane. The axiom is, "if there is snow, they will come." Well, if we're not sure there's snow, we aint coming -- it's a long way from Tobago to go with no snow. ;-)
