The Pieniny raftsmen have been guiding people down the Dunajec river since time immemorial. In 1934 they formed an association in the wake of growing interest in the region, and between the months of May and September you can take a raft downriver through some magnificent countryside. There are two routes, both lasting about two and a half hours. Amongst the most captivating scenery that you pass through are the famous Trzy Korony (The Three Crowns) and the spectacular Dunajec Gorge. This is certainly not white-water rafting, and you take in the countryside at a very congenial pace. However, the experience is very Tolkienesque and couples are likely to enjoy the romance of it all - a kind of Polish mountaineers version of the Venetian gondola.
