Solidarity In The Big Apple
A special exhibition commemorating the 25th anniversary of the birth of Solidarity will be placed in Union Square – one of the busiest squares in NYC. It will be composed of 40 large billboards presenting front-page articles from the main American dailies reporting on the events from Gdansk in August 1980.
The exhibition is a part of celebratory events organized in NYC by the Polish Cultural Institute and the Polish Consulate there. Apart from the exhibition, there will be panel discussions and a conference there with the participation, among others, of former president and Solidarity founder, Lech Walesa, Shana Penn, the author of the book called “Solidarity's Secret - The Women Who Defeated Communism In Poland” and prof. Elzbieta Matynia, head of the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies at New School University in New York.
