She’s coming round the mountain…
It’s been a long time since the men serving in the TOPR – the Tatra Mountain Rescue Service – have had to worry about putting the toilet seat down. For 30 years, the organisation has been a men-only environment, with some considering rescue work in the tough mountain environment around Zakopane to be no job for a lady.
That, however, is about to change, after the management board of the rescue service voted to admit a woman to their ranks.
The candidate, who has not been named, received formal notification that her application had been successful, following open and frank discussion at a meeting of the board. No further details have been released – but it is understood that the decision to admit her to the voluntary service was not unanimous.
