Zakopane – the hub of the universe

 

What should be a sleepy mountain town at the foot of the Giewont Mountain has in fact a long and glorious reputation as a home to creativity and individual style – not to mention the ski-ing.
The exhibition, from May 13, will focus on the art that came out of the town in the years 1880 to 1939. It will be shown at the recently restored Tatra Museum’s Oksza Villa, which is itself one of the finest 19th century buildings in the distinctive Zakopane architectural style.
The best of the local and visiting talent from this period will be on display, including painting, sculpture, engraving, photographs and crafts. Some come from the Tatra Museum collection, while others are on loan from other collections.
The restoration of the Oksza Villa building was finished last year, thanks to funds from the EU and the Malopolska Regional government. The original building is the work of architect Stanisław Witkiewicz.

I love Zakopane so much that I would either retire there or spend six months a year there, and I have traveled in Europe, all the states, Mexico, the Caribbean, etc. I love the food, the music, the cycling, the skiing, the people, and, I must say, the superb Polish beer. Bardzo smaczone, dokladnie. I guess that is why I have been there eleven times in all four seasons. Do more researching, take a trip to the Pod Hale, and you will want to return. Obecuje. I promise.
