Gregor Schlierenzauer soared to victory over the weekend in the World Ski Jumping Cup. The 20-year-old Austrian notched up two wins in as many days, taking him a tad closer in the overall ranking to leader Simon Amman of Switzerland.

Amman was close in second at the Zakopane leg of the event. Indeed, he set a new record on Polish terrain, with a jump of 140.5 metres. However, the Austrian proved more consistent. This was echoed by other Austrian competitors, who currently hold four out five of the top spots in the overall rankings.

Meanwhile, Polish star Adam Malysz, who has not had his best season, managed to land in 5th place, a little better than some of his recent performances, meaning that he is 8th in the competition thus far.

On 31st January, the contest will continue in Oberstdorf, Germany.
