Celebrated New York ensemble The Kronos Quartet were the star guests yesterday at Zakopane's "Music On the Heights" Festival.
The American outfit has longstanding links with Poland, thanks in no small part to their admiration for composer Henryk Gorecki, who lives in the small village of Zab, near Zakopane. Indeed, the Polish legend has even composed music especially for the ensemble.
Fittingly enough, Gorecki's most famed String Quartet No. 4 was given pride of place in last night's programme. The event marked the fifth time that the ensemble has played in Poland this year.
