Dalai Lama Honoured In Poland

His Holiness the Dalai Lama made a three day trip to Poland in late July, where he was made an honorary citizen of Warsaw.

Amongst many engagements, the Tibetan leader visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum, where he reflected on the similarities between Poland's former subjugation and his own country's enduring struggle.

The Dalai Lama enjoys immense popularity in Poland, and many Poles see their own experiences echoed in Tibet. Indeed, the Dalai Lama met Polish Pope John Paul II more often than any other international dignitary. Their statuses as spiritual leaders for those trapped under totalitarian rule gave them much in common, and a strong, mutually respectful relationship developed.
