Tortoises Turn Up In Gas Tank
A Ukrainian man has been apprehended at the Polish border for transporting some unlikely passengers. Customs officials found over 120 Asian tortoises in a converted gas tank in the driver's car.
Police believe that the man intended to sell the tortoises, but they will now become an early Christmas present for the Zamosc zoo.
There has been something of a trend for smuggling exotic animals across the Polish-Ukrainian border of late. Back in November, a bus headed to Lviv from Warsaw was found to be carrying two kangaroos, five miniature ponies and eleven pheasants. The driver professed that he had been given them by a stranger in Warsaw.
