The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced radical plans for the rebuilding of the railway line to Zakopane.
Following the projected changes, the journey from Krakow to Zakopane will be shortened to 70-80 minutes.
To achieve this goal, 40 kilometres of entirely new track will need to be laid, whilst another 100 kilometres will be rebuilt.
The project is part of the wider Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), and the Zakopane leg will cost some 3 billion Euros.
Before mountain-lovers get too excited, it should be added that we won't be seeing any gargantuan changes in the immediate future. Prospective date for completion is 2020.
