Expectations of a low turnout were confounded on Sunday when thousands of young voters came out to make their voices heard.
The Civic Platform (PO), the liberal right of centre party, swept into power with 209 seats in the Seym (Parliament). They notched up almost 10% more than the Law and Justice group, the ruling party of the Kaczynski brothers. Young voters voted decidedly to oust the so called 'terrible twins' from power.
All in all it was a great day for the moderates, with fringe parties such as the far-right League of Polish Families, and the maverick Euro-sceptic Self Defense Party losing all of their seats in parliament.
