Highland Bonds

It's easy enough for Brits to get to the Polish Highlands - just fly to Krakow and hop on a bus to Zakopane. But now it looks like there might be a chance to do things the other way round.

Britain's 'Highlands and Islands Airports Limited' are considering a link between Scotland's Highlands and Poland. Direct flights from Scotland's Inverness airport are in focus.

It's estimated that over 8000 Poles are working in Scotland's Highland region, many of them in Inverness. The new service would make the journey to the motherland a good deal easier, whilst also opening up an intriguing holiday opportunity to Scots themselves.

Although Polish nobleman enjoyed hunting trips with Scottish lairds before the war, most of the Poles living in Scotland's Highlands today were compelled to seek work abroad owing to the scarcity and low pay of work in post-communist Poland. It's estimated that some 40,000 Poles have taken up work in Scotland since Poland joined the EU.
