After enduring ridicule from all corners of Polish society, a far right politician has relinquished her suggestion that a popular children's programme promotes a 'homosexual lifestyle'.
Anna Sowinska, a spokesperson for the far-right League Of Polish Families Party, was splashed across international and Polish papers this week, following comments she made in the 'Wprost' current affairs magazine.
Mrs Sowinska was apparently unnerved by the fact that an allegedly male character from the British programme brandishes a handbag. Tinky Winky, a purple chap who looks like a cross between a chimpanzee and an alien, was singled out as the danger man.
Mrs Sowinska, who fronts a children's rights association, ordered an investigation into the programme by a group of leading psychologists.
However, a chorus of ridicule greeted the suggestions, with parents across the country siding with Tinky Winky in this unexpected front of the gay rights debate.
