A very special talk took place in Zakopane's Hotel Wersal - a talk between a beloved Polish religious figure and the keepers of Polish culture. The only significant aspect was that the members of the conversation weren't actually there!
The meeting at the hotel was a special promotion of a new book: "John Paul II to Artists - Artists to John Paul II," published by the Polish publisher "Gaudium." The book consists of 110 "letters" by over 100 respected cultural, artistic, and scientific figures, including Nobel Prize winner Czeslaw Milosz. Artists (including poets, writers, actors, painters, composers, architects, and sculptors) shared their views based on the late Pope's "Letter to Artists," which was an appeal to artists of the whole world to once again rebuild the ties between the world of art and the Church. Those artists participating in the project tried to stress the significant role culture plays in each person's life. Much of the focus is also on the relationship between religion and art, a significant topic in a Catholic country like Poland. |
