Late December has been set as the date of the eagerly anticipated opening of the Zakopane 'Aquapark'. The aqua park will add an interesting architectural element to a town renound for its slopes and winter fun, but the Zakopane council clearly sees some remedial value in jumping in for a dip before or after a hard day's skiing.
Plans for the aqua park have been on the agenda since a building permit was issued in 2001 and unlike the building of roads between Zakopane and Krakow, construction of the park has progressed at a fairly steady pace. Just one of the attractions of the aqua park will be two giant water slides that will meander throughout the parks interior. One slide will be 106m long and 12m tall, whilst a second stands at an impressive, if not intimidating 16.7m and is 166.5m in length. Three smaller slides are also installed, and all will interconnect to the park's three indoor pools.
Along with those always popular slides and pools there will be saunas, a jacuzzi, a wild and rocky whirlpool and an opportunity to get a massage if one feels recreational swimming is tiring enough to warrant one. All of these attractions will doubtlessly lead to an increase in the annual influx of tourists, yet with a capacity of a cool 1000 patrons, there should be enough room for everyone.
The park is located ideally at Antalówce next to ul. Jagiellonska, which along with the significant distance from sea level will provide some breathtaking views for patrons while they splish splash there way amidst the heated indoors during those cold winters days. That's unless their brave enough to jump into the outdoor pool between now and March, as there is one of those too, of course.
