Fans of folklore will be in seventh heaven this week in Zakopane, as one of the town's best loved events has just got underway. The 38th International Festival of Highland Folklore will be drawing colourful clans from across Europe, and this year, Russia, Greece, Italy and Macedonia will all have their special day.
Of course, Poland itself will be providing most of the folkin' frolics, and one Highland couple will even be weaving their own marriage into the festival. Zakopane marriages are always lively occasions, so head on down to Plac Niepodleglosci at 5pm on the 19th to join in the fun.
Besides a good deal of singing, dancing and thigh-slapping, there will also be a spotlight on the culinary traditions of the highland clans. First stop is Macedonia on Monday 21st. That'll be followed Russia on Tuesday, Greece on Wednesday and Italy on Thursday. As the old Polish expression goes: 'Eat, drink and loosen your belt!'
