EXHIBITION: THE TIME OF THE TATRA EXPLORERS

150 years ago, city dwellers didn't dare venture down to Zakopane. Of course, in those days, the place was little more than a few hovels, But in the late 19th century it suddenly became wildly fashionable. Poets and painters helped create a cult of the highlander, and the intelligentsia flocked to build villas at the foot of the mountains. This exhibition takes us back to the era of those pioneering explorers, and the country folk who were their redoubtable guides.
