NEW BRANCH OF THE TATRA MUSEUM OPENS

A brand new branch of the Tatra Museum is unveiled today. The idea is to show the roots of the famed Zakopane Style of architecture in the late nineteenth century. The distinctive folk dwellings of the region served as an inspiration for one of the most glittering personalities in Polish art, Stanislaw Witkiewicz (father of the equally colourful Witkacy).

EXHIBITION: THE TIME OF THE TATRA EXPLORERS

This exhibition was conceived for the 120th anniversary of the Tatra museum. It takes us back to the time when exploring the mountains was a pioneering adventure - Zakopane was little more than a remote hamlet 120 years ago. Soon it became the spiritual capital of the nation, as artists, poets and intellectuals convened from all parts of the then divided Poland. Here, photographs, paintings and mementos recall that golden age.

Here, visitors can savour pictures by pioneers of the genre, such as the legendary Bisson brothers, who are famed in Poland for photographing national icon Fryderyk Chopin.
