Zywiec na Sniegu - 'Zywiec on the Snow' Festival

Zywiec is a strong contender for the crown of Poland's best-loved beer. It was founded by a branch of the Habsburgs, and their crown adorns each bottle until this day. But what's the brewery up to in snowy Zakopane then? In a nutshell, they're here to party. The 'Zywiec on the Snow' Festival has been a regular fixture in Zakopane life over the last few years. Some of Poland's biggest pop stars will be descending on the highlands for a fortnight of musical mayhem. Stages will be set up specially for the extravaganza, and a string of DJs will be providing backup for the big names in pop and rock. As you'd expect, liberal quantities of beer will be consumed by revellers. And a little tip to warm the cockles. Ask for a 'grzane piwo' (gsharnee peevo), literally, mulled beer. It may sound disgusting - but the adventurous will be rewarded!

Polo na Sniegu - 'Polo on the Snow'

Following on from the success of last year's event, the polo season will kick off early again in 2008 with a snowy series of matches in Zakopane. The idea of polo on the snow was first realized in St. Moritz, Switzerland, some twenty years back. Events have since been held across Europe and America, making a Polish debut in 2007. International riders will be descending on Zakopane for this fortnight of snowswept jousts.
