Highland happenings...

For a small town in the Highlands Zakopane certainly boasts a vibrant annual calendar of events - especially during winter, the mountain resort's peak tourist season. Ski slaloms, international ski-jumping and folk festivals are accompanied by raucous parties in the town centre, whereas Christmas and New Year's Eve are celebrated like nowhere else in Poland. The rest of the year is hardly quiet either with jazz festivals, automobile rallys and theatre providing plenty of goings-on.

Wonderful page showing the Village of Chocholow. My grandparents, Andrey Hurgot and Rosalia Zvceseokov (copied the name from my father's birth certificate and it is difficult to make out) came from Chocholow but moved to
Bobrov, Slovakia, maybe in early 1900's, where my father was born. My father's three older sisters, Maria, Agnes and Julia, were born in Chocholow. I am trying to find out if their are any relatives remaining in Chocholow. Maybe some day I will be able to visit this most picturesque village.

It's an annual ritual. Every time I am in Poland I go to Zakopane to hike the picturasque trails, enjoy the finest sea food at the "Pstrag Gorski", visit the shops. It's my favorite vacation spot.

We were in Zakopane in May - Second visit - gets better each time we visit- I can't imagine going to Poland with out going to Zakoplane - the people - food, accomodations - prices - great- What a beautiful place - Our special event this year was to be there on a feast of the Blessed Virgin and to see the procession through the main street - very beautiful. This place is a must whether you ski, hike, bike or just sightsee, and shop.
