Famous for their vodkas and superb beers, Poles are not shy when it comes to the odd tot or three, and Zakopane more than lives up to the tradition. There are a great choice of pubs, cafes and bars to choose from, many with a folk theme and lavishly-decorated interiors. The arrival of snow brings an extra apres-ski edge to Zakopane, with plenty of mulled wine (grzaniec) and warmed beers with fruit juice. In the summer, however, cool lagers keep the visitors' thirst slaked.
