Distinguished British conductor Simon Rattle described Karol Szymanowski as one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century. Born in today's Ukraine, Szymanowski eventually settled in Zakopane where he was inspired to create some of his best works. A friend of the artist Witkacy, he moved into the Villa Atma in 1930. The house was opened as a museum in 1976 and the interior recreates the spirit of the place as it was in the composer's times. One problem is that it seems to be frequently closed, but if you strike it lucky, it's a treat for classical music fans.
